In the final stages of summer, Goldroom comes to rescue us from the doldrums of the cold and wind. Josh Legg, better known by his stage name as Goldroom, has released his debut artist album Way of the West to stream and download.

The 10-track LP is short and compact, but brimming with nostalgia and summery grooves. West of the West is an escapist trip for listeners who want to tune out the world's problems for 40 minutes.

The album draws upon Legg's nostalgia for telling the teenage love story. Tracks like "Teenage Waste" and "Freeway Waste" talk about some of the pitfalls and idealist moments of adolescent love.

Even though the album has that feeling of longing, there is a distinct modernity attached to the project through the production and songwriting.

The album feels the right length at 10 tracks because the story might drag on if was any longer.

The album plays as one cohesive unit from start to finish; there are some clear standouts like "Lying To You," "Retrograde," "Silhouette" and "Breaks." Leggs's hazy voice actually matches the 80's inspired instrumentals the best throughout the LP.

Back when we spoke to Goldroom last July, he emphasized his mission on the project was to "write an actual album" not a collection of singles, and to "weave together a story." He has achieved that with escapist debut West of the West.

Goldroom is about to embark on a West of the West Tour with Autograf to support the album. He is bringing along his band to perform shows across North America. Find the full itinerary here.
