The long summer days and nights outside have come to an end. Now it is time to gear up for sweater weather, movie nights indoors and days spent snuggled up on the couch. Scott Hansen, better known by his stage name, Tycho has released the new soundtrack to those cold, rainy or snowy days with his new, surprise album Epoch.

The post-rock, ambient musician has been put out four albums over his decade-long run as Tycho. The release of Epoch nearly coincides with the release of his debut artist album Past Is Prologue in 2006.

Epoch picks up right where Tycho left off on his 2014 album Awake. The album ebbs and flows from the more uptempo tracks like "Slack" and "Division" that have the iconic Tycho synths and high-pitched, heavily reverbed guitars, to the much more subdued tunes such as "Receiver" or the album finale "Field."

Tycho has an innate gift of crafting some of the most cohesive albums in the instrumental, electronic space. It partially comes with the territory of the music he makes, but also the ability to write songs that each have their own individual sounds, but also are able to transition seamlessly to the next. Many artists struggle with this and he is only getting better with each passing album.

Though there wasn't much sign that the album was going to be released today, he hasn't been totally quiet this year. Earlier on in 2016, he released a deluxe edition of Awake, which included remixes by the likes of Com Truise, Baio and RJD2.

He released two singles in the past few months, "Division" and "Epoch," which hinted at a new album, but there wasn't a definitive timeline. Also Tycho's music fits so well into an album form, it was hard to judge the songs without hearing the complete story that they were meant to be a part of.
