U2 have been teasing a massive 30-year anniversary tour to celebrate their seminal fifth album Joshua Tree over the past month. Now the group has unveiled the North American and European tour dates for this run of shows that will include some very high profile support.
Mumford & Suns will support U2 on the first three shows of the tour and then The Lumineers will come along for several shows. They have a headlining gig at Bonnaroo on June 9. They are the first headliner confirmed for the Tennessee festival, which will announce its lineup on Wednesday. OneRepublic will support on one show in Cleveland and then Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will join for the European run.
The tour begins in Vancouver on May 12 and after shows at stadiums across North America and Europe in cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas London, Rome and Barcelona, it will end on Aug. 1 in Brussels.
Speaking about the album and what it means to him, Bono noted just how significant Joshua Tree is to the band.
"Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years... it's quite an opera," says Bono in a statement. "A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarization... all the greats... I've sung some of these songs a lot... but never all of them. I'm up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are... it's gonna be a great night."
