Associated Press presented its Entertainers of the Year award to Hollywood accusers who have spoken and bravely shared their experiences of sexual assaults and abuses against prominent Hollywood actors. The award merited to those actresses who drew inspiration of bravery for other victims to come out and share their harassment encounters.
No specific actress is given the Entertainer of the Year award, but in the AP board description and presentation, it includes the photos of actresses such as Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan, and Heather Graham, to name a few. These women speak for the many others regarding sexual misconduct ordeals and how they are once a victim of such.
"The women who initially spoke out against sexual misconduct in Hollywood this fall — inspiring millions to tell their own stories of harassment and illegality on social media — have been named The Associated Press Entertainers of the Year, voted by members of the news cooperative and AP entertainment reporters," released by the AP in a report.
The allegations against actors and other artists in the industry also spun off by the #MeToo movement to further the exposure of claims and call out others who are victims of sexual harassment to come forward.
As a development, the overwhelming exposure to stop the abuses is causing positive impact worldwide. Victims are starting to get courageous to share their experience to turn in abusers and formally put a halt on them.
Sexual abuse stories are not new. It is just now that women, especially those in the entertainment industry, have the courage to voice out their horrifying and traumatic experiences to also protect others and let abusers know that they will not anymore be mum about it.
Prominent sexual abusers in the industry are currently facing consequences that may lead them to lose their projects, suspend them from their shows, and fire them from their jobs if proven guilty.
Stories such as these catch everyone's attention in and out of the entertainment scene because of the inspiration and courage they set forth, hence the AP board decision to pass on such award. In addition, Hollywood accusers are getting more awards such as this. In fact, they are also the chosen winners for the Time Person of the Year award.
Hollywood accusers bumped off several artists nominated for the Entertainment of the Year for 2017 such a Jimmy Fallon, Kendrick Lamar, Gal Gadot, Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee, among others. The accusers replaced 2016 winners Betty White, Tina Fey, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift, Adele, and Lin Manuel-Miranda.
