Girls Trip, Get Out, and Black-ish recently won big at the 2018 NAACP Image Awards. The awards ceremony was held on Monday, Jan. 15.

The NAACP Image Awards honors people of color in entertainment and literature. The show was held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and was broadcast live on TV One.

Movie Winners

A Wrinkle In Time director Ava DuVernay was named as the Entertainer of the Year. The prestigious award was formerly given to Michael B. Johnson, Taraji P. Henson, Dwayne Johnson and several others.

Get Out received a slew of awards including Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for Daniel Kaluuya, as well as writing and directing recognitions for Jordan Peele. Girls Trip, Gifted, and Detroit were three of the winning films this year. Octavia Spencer won Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for Gifted.

Television Winners

The winners in the television categories include Scandal, Power, Insecure and more. Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross won Outstanding Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series. The ABC sitcom also bagged the Outstanding Comedy Series award.

Following his win, Anderson expressed his gratitude to the NAACP for recognizing his talent. He also congratulated his TV wife, Ross, for her exemplary performance in their sitcom.

Henson, who stars in Empire, won Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. Power lead star Omari Hardwick won as Henson's counterpart. The actor commemorated his win by sharing a photo of himself with his "brother from another mother," John David Washington.

Power was also named as Outstanding Drama Series this year.

Non-Televised Awards

The 2018 NAACP Image Awards also recognized other actors, actresses, and shows, but the acceptance of their awards was not televised on Monday night. Insecure star Jay Ellis won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award. Marsai Martin, who stars in Black-ish, won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Other winners include Joe Morton from Scandal, Naturi Naughton from Power, Idris Elba for Guerrilla, Queen Latifah for Flint and more.
