Marvel's dodgy record with TV shows may be set to change for good, with the release of an intriguing teaser trailer for the upcoming Cloak & Dagger.

The entertainment behemoth's small-screen output has been hit-and-miss thus far, with the high-quality likes of Jessica Jones flying against damp squibs such as Iron Fist and the ghastly Inhumans.

Meanwhile, Marvel's latest foray into the world of small-screen entertainment, The Runaways, has exceeded expectations to become one of the coolest and most entertaining comic books shows around. Hoping to follow in its footsteps is Cloak & Dagger.

The story focuses on Tandy Bowen played by Olivia Holt,  who has previous, having voiced Spider-Girl in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series and Tyrone Johnson played Aubrey Joseph from Run All Night, The Night Of. These two teenagers from vastly different backgrounds suddenly find themselves with superpowers linked to each other.

Tandy, who grew up a rich, privileged princess, can emit piercing light daggers while Tyrone, who's from a lower class background, can control the power of darkness.

"It really brings this truth behind kids who grow up in a broken home," Holt stated about stressed Cloak & Dagger's real-life slant.

She also feels the show will resonate with comic book fans and newbies alike.

"For the audience who doesn't know about the comic, I think they're really going to love it. And for the audience that grew up reading the comics, I think they're going to love it even more," she added.

Both Tandy and Tyrone debuted in a 1982 issue of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man. They subsequently became a couple of the web-slinging hero's allies. The duo has since headlined their own comic books as well as appearing in the Marvel Knights series. They also fought in the Civil War on Cap's side.

Freeform described Cloak & Dagger as a live-action interracial romance when it initially announced the acquisition back in 2016. The preview below, which featured at the Freeform Summit in Hollywood on Thursday, showcases a meet-cute between the two leads.

However, just when it seems like the typical run-of-the-mill teen romance story, the superpowers kick in and fans get a glimpse of what kind of show this really is.

Cloak & Dagger will lead Freeform's Thursday night lineup starting June 7.

The channel also announced at the Summit that The Bold Type is returning for a second season on June 12 while a pilot for a long-mooted Party Of Five reboot is also in the works.
