Yann Arnaud, a performer for Cirque du Soleil, passed away on Saturday after suffering a fatal fall during a show in Florida. He was 38.

The cast and crew of Volta, as well as the Cirque du Soleil family, are all mourning Arnaud's death. The performer was doing aerial straps when he fell. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but his injuries were so grave that he died a few hours later.

"The entire Cirque du Soleil family is in shock and devastated by this tragedy. Yann had been with us for over 15 years and was loved by all who had the chance to know him... Our focus will be on supporting Yann's family and our employees, especially the 'Volta' team, as we go through these difficult times together," read the statement.

A spokesperson for Cirque du Soleil also said that they are doing their part in gathering information about the tragic accident. They are also cooperating with investigators and police officials.

Following the accident, the final two shows in Tampa, Florida were canceled. The performers are scheduled to take the stage once again on March 29 and 30 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, May 17 to June 10 at Uniondale, New York, and July 12 to Aug. 5 in Oaks, Pennsylvania.

The CEO's Statement

During an interview, Daniel Lamarre, Cirque du Soleil's chief executive officer, said that he told the members of the group that they will not be forced to return to the show.

"I explained to them that the show wouldn't restart until the whole team feels able to start back. In a case like this, the human element triumphs the financial aspect. We have to give priority to employees," said Lamarre.

Cirque Du Soleil Deaths

This incident is not the first time that a Cirque du Soleil performer died during a show. In 2013, Sarah Guillot-Guyard, an acrobat, died after falling more than 30 meters during a performance in Las Vegas. She was 31.

In 2009, Olexandre Jourov, a Ukrainian acrobat, also died from a fall during his rehearsal in Montreal. He was 24.
