The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, a new play by Simon Stephens based on the bestselling novel by Tom Haddon, is coming to Broadway this fall. Previews begin September 10 for an October 5 opening. Tickets went on sale yesterday.
Published in 2003, the novel portrays a teenage boy with an emotionally dissociated mind, a condition popularly understood as Asperger syndrome (recently scrubbed from the DSM manual) or high-functioning autism. Christopher's discovery of the dead body of a neighbor's dog launches him on an adventure leading to self- and family discovery.
The book won than 17 literary awards and has been translated into 44 languages, according to press notes. The play, in turn, took home no fewer than seven 2013 Olivier Awards, including Best New Play. The London Evening Standard called it "a beautiful, eloquent, dazzlingly inventive show about the wonders of life," while the Times of London hailed it as "a phenomenal combination of storytelling and spectacle."
