The BeyHive can now relive the epic music video of "Apes***," the hit new single from Beyoncé and Jay'Z's joint album Everything Is Love.
The Louvre Offers The Carters-Inspired Tour
To celebrate the popularity of the viral new track, the Louvre Museum in Paris, France has opened a guided tour that will visit every artwork featured in the music video.
The "thematic trail," according to the museum's website, will last up to 90 minutes. Fans will be able to see17 art pieces including Venus de Milo, The Raft of Medusa, The Intervention of the Sabine Women, and Mona Lisa. The tour runs every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
"Apes***" is the first single from Everything Is Love. It was released last month and it debuted on the 13th spot of the Billboard 100. Meanwhile, its music video set in The Louvre has raked over 65 million views on YouTube.
In a previous interview with Pitchfork, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui talked about how the viral and iconic music video came to be.
"That's what I like so much about the video — that it allows the paintings to speak on the music," the 42-year-old choreographer said about filming in the museum. "So sometimes [in the video] it's just the painting, sometimes it's the painting with the two powerful artists in front, sometimes it's a dancer, and sometimes it's just a picture in front of another picture."
He also said that the music video was heavily inspired by mythology. The dancers, who appeared wearing nude clothing, Cherkaoui said, were made to look like they were parts of the exhibit themselves.
"Here, I think the dancers are just so beautiful, and there's something very sculptural about them," he added. "When they are inside of that space — just right on the stairs or suddenly moving in the group — you have the feeling that they could be those ancient mythological goddesses of the hunt or of wisdom."
Beyoncé, Jay-Z To Headline Mandela Festival
Beyoncé and Jay-Z are bringing "Apes***" and their new songs to Africa later this year. The power couple is set to perform at a special Global Citizen Festival to honor anti-apartheid leader and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Nelson Mandela.
Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams, and Usher will also headline the event. Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey, Naomi Campbell, Forest Whittaker, and Tyler Perry are expected to attend, revealed the SFGate.
The Global Citizen is a movement that aims to end extreme poverty in every part of the world by 2030. The Mandela 100 campaign this year hopes to raise money to help the poorest families around the globe.
