Taylor Swift was already pop's most buzz-worthy artist of the past couple weeks, but she decided to add more fuel to the fame machine on Wednesday night.

During a taping of last night's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 24-year-old star was supposedly there to talk about her new film, The Giver, but she also dropped some important music news: She'll be performing at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The annual show will take place on the night of Aug. 24 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

The Hollywood Reporter points out that the event is already a star-studded affair. Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer and Usher are also scheduled to perform.

Mrs. Carter will likely be the focal point of the show; she leads all nominees with eight nominations, including Video of the Year and Best Female Video.

But Swift's music has been mostly out of the public sphere for the past year. Her most recent album, 2012's Red, pretty much destroyed the pop charts with a series of singles that included "We Are Never Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble."

In the last two weeks, she's been stealing the spotlight back with a series of "clues" that have captivated her fan base. On Aug. 18, she's scheduled for a Yahoo! Live Stream, during which many expect her to reveal new album details.

There's also been a full-scale investigation into her new single, a Taylor-centric preview clip for The Giver, and a generous gesture by the singer to a leukemia patient.

Essentially, pop fans will continue to be enamored with Swift well into winter, and the hysteria will certainly heighten when she makes her big announcement on the 18th.
