In marriage, many would think that after 20 or so years together you're pretty much set for a lifetime, whether it be in happiness, bliss or sadly even misery. But apparently that rule doesn't apply to Neil Young, because the rock star just filed for a divorce from his wife of 36 years, according to Rolling Stone.

Pegi Young, the musician's soon-to-be ex-wife and frequent collaborator, stood as the inspiration for some of the guitarist's uber popular tunes over the years, including "Unknown Legend" and "Such a Woman."

Back in the 90s, she became one of the Farm Aid founder's background singers, sharing the stage with him on a vast number of tours over the years as well as the 1994 Academy Awards.

Word has it that the couple first met while Pegi was working as a waitress near the "Needle And The Damage Done" singer's California ranch. He tells the story beautifully in the track "Unknown Legend," saying, "I used to order just to watch her float across the floor / She grew up in a small town / Never put her roots down."

Aside from singing with her almost ex, Pegi Young has released three albums since 2007 and toured on her own as a solo act.

Along with Neil Young, the two co-founded the Bridge School back in 1986. In fact, their last performance together was in Oct. 2013 during a Bridge School Benefit.

RS reports there's a hearing scheduled for Dec. 12 between the two. Stay tuned for more updates.
