  • Nicole Oran's 2013 Playlist: Jay Z, Daft Punk and Savages

Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are necessarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again.
  • Chvrches Covering East 17's 'Stay Another Day' on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge [WATCH]

Scottish electro-pop band Chvches made a stop at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge yesterday in support of its debut album The Bones of What You Believe, and they decided to mix things up a bit. Instead of just playing a few of their recent hits like "The Mother We Share," The trio made an unexpected choice to cover British boy band East 17's 1994 single "Stay Another Day."
  • Freaky Friday: She & Him Cover "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"

At Music Times, we love a good cover song. There's something wonderful about repurposing music and essentially bringing life to another creation. Music is not a rigid and inflexible product but rather a malleable one that allows songs to take on a new life as others reimagine it. Nothing gets a crowd more excited than seeing one of their favorite bands cover one of their favorite songs. The cover song makes music accessible to new audiences, and spreading music is what we are all about.
  • Foo Fighters Play at a Pizza Joint Before Tour

After more than a year, following Dave Grohl's announcement of a hiatus in 2012, Foo Fighters are going to head to Mexico City to play on Dec. 13 at the 55,000-capacity Foro Sol stadium. The National will open for them. But earlier this week they decided to warm up and test out how tight the set was at a pizza place in the Los Angeles-area first.
  • The Roots' Annual Holiday Party Featured Big Daddy Kane, Raekwon and Sufjan Stevens

The Roots really went for it this year with the annual holiday jam session, also known as the OkayPlayer's Annual Holiday Party at Brooklyn's Brooklyn Bowl. It marked the fifteenth anniversary of the OkayPlayer website, which Questlove helped to found, and the show delivered by offering appearances from Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon, beat-boxing mastermind Rhazel, and an unannounced appearance from Sufjan Stevens.
  • James Blake announced for BBC Radio 1 Residency

James Blake has been slotted to take over one of the segments in BBC Radio 1's Residency series in January 2014. The series will feature one selected DJ to play a two-hour set each Thursday, and Blake (recent winner of the Mercury Prize) will be the artist taking the Jan. 23 spot right after a set from T Williams.
  • Prince Could Be Working With Rita Ora on Next Album

  • Macaulay Culkin Has a Pizza-Themed Velvet Underground Cover Band

Well most of us know Macaulay Culkin from Home Alone and its New York-set sequel. And as much of this might be a stretch, there is a familiar scene in Lost in New York when a remarkably and unrealistically lucky Kevin McCallister happens to have a suite in a luxury hotel and is greeted outside at his limo before toy shopping with his "very own cheese pizza."
  • Cut Copy Tour Dates Released

Australian electronic band Cut Copy has received promising reviews from critics after the Nov. 1 release of their fourth studio album, Free Your Mind. The video for the title track released in October shows how far the group has come with recognition as it featured True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard playing a cult leader.
