• Dr. Luke to Face Lawsuit for Jessie J 'Price Tag' Breakbeat

Dr. Luke is the latest big name to be taken to court over similarities in music, as his beat for Jessie J's "Price Tag" has been compared to another copyrighted song, much like how Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams ended up on the wrong side of a $7.2 million payout to the Marvin Gaye estate earlier this year.
  • Jay Z/Nas, Tupac / Notorious B.I.G.: The Best Hip-Hop Diss Tracks Ever

The hottest story in hip-hop for the last week has been Meek Mill's allegations that Drake uses a ghostwriter, and the Toronto rapper turned up the heat by releasing "Charged Up," a perceived diss track aimed at his accuser. Responses to Drake's release have been fairly positive, at least from fans (Mill himself hasn't responded to the track yet) but Drizzy has a while to go in terms of both attitude and wordplay if he wants to land on the list of the greatest diss tracks ever. Here are five examples, from the Nas/Jay Z beef to the Tupac Shakur/Notorious B.I.G. beef that set a high bar for vitriol.
  • N.W.A. Reunion with Eminem Filling in For Eazy-E? Rumors Say 'Yes'

Chatter has persisted about a possible N.W.A. reunion, following the group's performance at the BET Experience in Los Angeles and the forthcoming film Straight Outta Compton, and now some voices are giving credence to the idea, suggesting that Eminem may tour with the icons.
  • N.W.A Reunite at BET Experience for First Show in 26 Years

Ice Cube, DJ Yella and MC Ren of N.W.A reunited for the first time in 26 years to perform last night at the BET Experience in Los Angeles. While Dr. Dre was not on hand for the performance, Snoop Dogg came out to help out with the rap group's iconic 1988 single "F*ck Tha Police."
  • MC Supreme, West Coast Rap All-Stars Member, Killed in Car Crash

MC Supreme, a Los Angeles hip-hop performer best known for his 1990 single "Black In America," was killed in a car crash over the weekend. The emcee had pulled his car over to the side of the Pacific Coast Highway, where it was struck by a man driving a pickup truck. Supreme was pronounced dead at the scene and his female passenger was transported to a local hospital. The other driver was arrested on suspicion of a DUI.
  • Ice Cube Announces N.W.A. Reunion at BET Experience Concert in L.A.

Ice Cube announced the biggest hip-hop news of the summer as N.W.A. will apparently reunite in some form for the BET Experience show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on June 27. It doesn't seem, based on Cube's commentary, that Dr. Dre will not be involved however MC Ren and DJ Yella will take part, as well as special appearances from Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q.
  • The Charts and The Gulf War: Mariah Carey, MC Hammer and Aerosmith [Memorial Day Special]

Memorial Day 2015 bears a special significance for two reasons: More importantly, it's the first time in 14 years that the holiday has been celebrated with no American troops involved in a "major ground war," and it's also the 25th anniversary of the first invasion of Iraq during the Gulf War. We at Music Times can do little but throw out our thanks to those who have served and those who currently serve in the United States military, but we wanted to check out what the Billboard charts looked like on both dates, August 2, 1991 and October 7, 2001, the dates when Americans last became embroiled in foreign combat.
  • The FBI and Musicians: John Lennon, N.W.A., Nine Inch Nails and More Acts with Reports

John Lennon appeared on The Dick Cavett Show on this date more than forty years ago and made a bold prediction: The FBI were keeping a close eye on him. This might sound like a typical conspiracy theory of the early '70s, except that it was totally true...either an indication that the FBI was predictable or it just wasn't very good at the secrecy thing. Lennon had all of the makings for a good FBI target: He had a record with drugs, he was vocally against the Vietnam War, and his political leanings were just right of being a godless communist. He wasn't the first, nor would he be the last, to gather attention from the Bureau. Here are another lot of otherwise harmless musicians that would get lengthy files in Washington D.C., from Elvis Presley to N.W.A.
  • Bryan Price: Lil Jon, Eminem, Dr. Dre and 5 Other Rappers Try to Outcurse Cincinnati Reds Manager

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price was having a bad week and he let the world know it by dropping the f-bomb 77 times during an epic rant on Monday afternoon. The rant was around 5:30 long, which comes out to about 14 f*cks a minute. Compare that with 50 Cent's early track "F*ck You," which comes in at about 14.25 f*cks a minute. Here's how Price's rant compares to the most profane hip-hop songs of all time, from Eminem to Dr. Dre and Lil Jon.
  • Second N.W.A. 'Straight Outta Compton' Biopic Trailer Released

The two minute and 30 second trailer gives fans another view into the lives of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, MC Ren and Arabian Prince as they changed hip-hop and pop culture with their abrasive and revolutionary lyrics that helped sparked spark the counter-culture gangster rap movement.
