"Timber" seemed like it might have been ready to hold down the Digital Downloads chart for a while, but another track had other ideas. -
Nicole Oran's 2013 Playlist: Jay Z, Daft Punk and Savages
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are necessarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again. -

Pitbull and Ke$ha beat Eminem and Rihanna for Digital Downloads in Slow Sales Week
For some odd reason, Christmas singles don't sell. Although the Billboard 200 was full of suddenly-popular CD's containing boatloads of "chestnuts," the Digital Downloads Top 10 didn't reflect the same. Which isn't to say that popular music downloads did particularly well either. -
Pitbull and Eminem Clash for Top-Downloaded Track from Thanksgiving Week
For once, the album sales for the previous week made more headlines than the digital downloads, but that doesn't mean that singles are doing badly at all. In fact, after just declaring last week that Eminem's "The Monster" could hold down the top spot for weeks to come, a new track took its place. -
'The Monster' and 'Royals' Biggest Names in Holiday Downloads Battle
Album sales may have been down over on the Billboard 200, but singles downloads continued to be hot over on the Digital Downloads charts. The Top 10 sold a combined 5,000 more downloads than last week-a slight rise-but still impressive considering the recent increase in mp3 sales. -
Digital Download Roundup: Eminem's Back On Top, OneRepublic Coming Strong
Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP 2 may have dropped off nearly 75 percent since last week (it still sold more than 200,000 copies), but that only meant good things for sales of his individual tracks this week. -
Album Sales Roundup: Lady Gaga Wins, but Eminem Comes Close
Lady Gaga had the best week of sales with 'ARTPOP,' but Eminem has already gone platinum. -
Lorde Sings Ronnie James Dio and Rainbow in Video from When She Was 12
There's already been a load of discussion about who the "real" Lorde is. The teenager, who's found massive crossover success with hits such as "Royals" and "Tennis Court," has been accused of not being nearly as into her brand of pop/pop-hop/whatever as her songs let on. The truth about Lorde's musical background may be even more shocking than some expected. Brace yourself: The star is totally into heavy metal. -
Lorde Signs Multi-Million Dollar Publishing Deal
It was a good 17th birthday for Lorde last week. The new 17-year-old music sensation signed a publishing deal on Nov. 7, and the deal is reportedly worth millions of dollars. -
A Great Big World Wins Digital Downloads This Week, but Lorde and Eminem Waiting in Wings
Eminem was in charge of the Digital Downloads charts last week, placing three different songs in the Top 10. The excellent sales of his new album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 seems to have driven down his singles sales however, and the rapper only has one track this week. But that doesn't mean that Lorde's recovered the top spot yet. Read on to find out who's making waves. -
Lorde Releases New Song 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' [LISTEN]
With the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire coming ever nearer, more music from the soundtrack is sure to come. Last week, a snippet of Ellie Goulding's "Mirrors" made its way around the web. Today (Nov. 12), Lorde's track for the movie, a cover of Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," debuted on Vulture. -

Eminem bumps Lorde and 'Rulers' down a notch with 'Rap God.' Katy Perry's 'Roar' stays strong
"Royals" has finally fallen off of the top spot in the Top 10 of the Billboard Digital Downloads chart, but it took a rap deity to make it happen. Check out who else debuted hot this week. -
Rick Ross Remixes 'Royals'
Rick Ross has taken a turn remixing Lorde's smash hit "Royals." The rapper adds more bass and a few verses to the track. Interestingly, Ross raps about the very hip-hop, consumer culture that Lorde is tackling in the song.
