• 7 Hip-Hop Guest Spots for George Clinton's 75th Birthday: Snoop, Tupac, More

Music Times wants to wish George Clinton, the iconic bandleader behind Parliament and Funkadelic, as well as the greatest figures in funk music history. We could spend thousands and thousands of words describing how great his bands were in the studio and live onstage...but that's a theme that's been reworked thousands and thousands of times. One subject that doesn't get as much respect is Clinton's influence on the world of hip-hop. If you don't believe us, just check out how many guest spots he's done for hip-hop tracks over the years, from Snoop Dogg to Tupac to Kendrick Lamar. We chose the biggest names that Clinton has worked with just to demonstrate how far and wide his appreciation in the genre stretches.
  • Kurt Cobain, The Beatles and Michael Jackson: Bad Musician Statues

A humorous petition has suggested that Outkast's Andre 3000 and Big Boi be carved into Georgia's historic Stone Mountain, a monument near Atlanta that's drawn controversy for its homage to the Confederacy in the form of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson in Mt. Rushmore-style. Our official stance at Music Times is that the ATLiens riding in a Cadillac on the side of the mountain wouldn't hurt. And, even if it does border on the absurd, it wouldn't be the worst statue of a musician to be erected. Alas, The Beatles, Kurt Cobain and Michael Jackson (especially Michael Jackson) have been subjected to attempted memorials that fall way short of tastefulness.
  • Carve Outkast's Andre 3000 and Big Boi into Stone Mountain, Petition Demands

A petition has proposed that Outkast members Andre 3000 and Big Boi be added to Georgia's Stone Mountain, a monument that currently displays Confederate icons Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thom "Stonewall" Jackson. The Atlanta chapter of the NAACP is pushing for the removal of the display, in light of the South's recent realization that the Confederate flag and associated imagery is a bad thing. One hip-hop fan, Mack Williams, has an idea that he thinks will make everyone feel a little better.
  • Big Boi Drops New Verse on Maroon 5's 'Animals' Remix [LISTEN]

Maroon 5 has shared a remix of their latest single "Animals," featuring a new guest verse from OutKast's Big Boi, which you can check out below. Though the track has a typical Maroon 5 electro-pop atmosphere, the production becomes more sparse and appropriately hip-hop-influenced for Big Boi's verse following the second chorus. • The Best Selling Hip-Hop Albums of All Time: Eminem, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G...Who's No. 1?

Thirty years ago on this day Run-D.M.C. were rewarded for its high sales, as its self-titled first album became the first hip-hop album in history to earn "Gold" status-which indicates more than 100,000 copies sold-nine months after its release. Hip-hop has come a long way in terms of styles and popularity in those 30 years, so the group's first album is far from the highest sellers in the genre anymore.
  • André 3000's OutKast Reunion Jumpsuits Being Made Into Shirt Line; No Word on New Music [WATCH]

André 3000's jumpsuits from the recent OutKast reunion tour already spawned an art show, and now the rapper announced that the messages will be made into a T-shirt line as well. Those jumpsuits seem to be the only positive 3000 took from his recent jaunt with Big Boi — he has been critical of himself and the tour ever since the end of the trek. Oh, well — on to the next thing. "You'll be able to see that really soon because people have been asking me," he says in the video below, "XXL" reported. It is actually a good idea, since the suits featured some pretty thought-provoking slogans like "Have you stopped growing?," "Life is short take more baths" and "Thinking deeply about shallow sh#t." "The response was great," he said about the fans and their response to the messages. "It was to start a conversation and that's what it's done. People started to make up their own messages. I saw so many people with black suits on. I was like, 'Oh, This is cool.'" The rapper explained that the concept grew out of having to perform old songs and not being able to say anything new on them.
  • Timbaland Leaks Tink, André 3000 Collab Track 'UFO,' Raps Along Excitedly [LISTEN]

Timbaland posted a video on YouTube recently of him rapping along to a new song featuring Tink and André 3000. The song is titled "UFO" and Timbaland looks excited as he raps and takes video of himself. The rapper/producer has been helping out singer Tink and, from the sound of things, it is paying off. André 3000 is easily the winner on this track. Anytime he is featured on another artist's song, he shines. But Timbaland's reaction to everything is priceless. You can tell he had fun with this one. Check it out below, via "MTV News." Over the summer, Timbaland spoke to "Rolling Stone" about his upcoming solo album "Opera Noir."
  • Rich Homie Quan Shares New Track "Around The World" From Upcoming 'Sour Diesel 17' Mixtape [LISTEN]

Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan has shared a new track titled "Around The World," which you can check out here. The Metro Boomin and Zaytoven-produced track features Quan rapping about all the places he's been around the world, from Los Angeles to Wisconsin (twice, apparently) to New York. Come to think of it, the only places he claims to have been to are in the United States, so his version of "around the world" is pretty limited.
  • Andre 3000 Says He Was "Selling Out" With OutKast Reunion, Calls Coachella Performance "Horrible"

Though OutKast's reunion this past year was one of the most anticipated in recent memory, the critical response of the Atlanta duo's festival appearances was less than stellar, and in a recent interview with The Fader, Andre Benjamin (a.k.a. Andre 3000) reveals why. Talking with electronic musician Nicolas Jaar, Benjamin admits that he didn't actually want the reunion to happen, and that he felt like a "sell-out."
  • Andre 3000's 47 Outkast Reunion Tour Jumpsuits Are Now Viewable At Art Basel Miami

There were few stories in the world of music this year as the return to touring by legendary Atlanta hip-hop duo Big Boi and André 3000, known as Outkast. They kicked off their reunion tour with a headlining appearance at Coachella in April to a rather mixed reaction. Something that caught people's attention right away were the individual jumpsuits that André 3000 wore on the tour, each carrying a different and sometimes very out there message (via Spin). Those jumpsuits are now on display at a gallery in Miami for the citywide art exhibition Art Basel.
