The track was originally written in 1979 for a Beach Boys Christmas LP, but was ultimately scrapped and never saw an actual release. A demo version of the track has been floating around as a bootleg for years.

  • 6 Bands Named After Styles of Music That They Don't Play

It is pretty lame to name your band after the style of music you play — I'm looking at you, Metallica — but these six, including Daft Punk and Cap'n Jazz, bands did just the opposite: naming themselves after styles of music they do not play.
  • 12 Bands Named After Places They're Not From

  • Liberation Music Sues Harvard Law Professor, Loses

The first lesson in this story is that you should avoid engaging in lawsuits with professors from the Harvard School of Law. Many a recent President has graduated from that particular program, and with good reason. They know more about legal proceedings than we do. Liberation Music, the label for French alt-rockers Phoenix, did not take this into consideration, and is now paying for it.
  • Nicole Oran's 2013 Playlist: Jay Z, Daft Punk and Savages

Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are necessarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again.
  • Disclosure and Chvrches Received Most Blog Mentions During 2013

If you roll your eyes at the term "blogosphere," at least acknowledge the truth the music world on the internet is vastly different from real-life music. The most telling example is Hype Machine's yearly 'Music Blog Zeitgeist,' which counts down the Top 50 performers based on how often they're mentioned in over 820 prominent music blogs. Hint: Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Eminem, Jay Z and Katy Perry didn't make the list.
