• 5 First No. 1s: 2001 vs 2015; Destiny's Child, Meek Mill and Blink-182 Face Off

This week marked an unusual accomplishment on the Billboard 200: For the first time in 14 years, the last five no. 1 albums on the chart have been from performers who had never been to the top before. We went back to check out what five albums were hot sellers during that period and compared them to this year's first-timers, to see what "generation" has the better taste. Old millennials, get ready to spar with the young millennials. We lined the albums up from one-to-five, based on where in the order they fell during their respective years.
  • U2 Fans Got a Surprise Tool Record When Buying 'Songs of Innocence' Vinyl; Elaborate Promo Stunt?

There's simply no way to get U2's 'Songs of Innocence' without a bit of trouble: The band drew the ire of iTunes users everywhere when listeners found the album forced upon them via the Apple program during September. Now the group has gotten around to releasing a vinyl version of the controversial release and some buyers are finding something else entirely: pressings of Tool's debut EP 'Opiate' instead of the more streamlined 'Songs of Innocence.' Did the alt-metal band pull off the greatest promotional stunt ever, trumping even U2 itself?
  • Tool Making Progress on New Album Following Legal Battle

Tool recently revealed that an ongoing lawsuit, which had been halting work on the group's new album, has been resolved. The suit, filed by the band's insurers, had been going on for nearly a decade, 'Rolling Stone' reported. Now that the issue has been taken care of in court, the group is making more progress with the follow-up to 2006's '10,000 Days.'
  • Tool Offers Album Update from the Studio

It's been somewhat confusing trying to figure out if Tool is recording a new album, but a recent Instagram post has cleared things up. According to Maynard James Keenan, the record is "progressing nicely" even though it's ultimately been a slow process. The new effort will follow up the band's 2006 release 10,000 Days.
  • Tool Post Photo From Studio Recording Sessions, Further Confirming New Album

Earlier this month Tool announced work on a new album, their first since 2006, saying that the writing and arranging session had "been progressing rather nicely." Now we have visual confirmation that all four members have hit the studio to work on their first album in eight years. Guitarist Adam Jones posted a photo to Instagram of the band in the studio with the caption, "Smoke on the horizon."
  • Tool's Danny Carey To Play Drums With Primus On Tour

Though Primus' next album Primus & The Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble is the band's first with drummer Tim 'Herb' Alexander since 1995, his recent heart troubles will force him to sit out some early dates on the band's upcoming tour. To replace him, Primus has selected Tool's Danny Carey, who will briefly fill in for Alexander in September, including performances at both Riot Fests in Chicago and Denver.
  • Music Times Celebrates Pi Day with The Mathematical Music of Tool

Happy Pi Day! March 14 is the one day of the year where people pretend to care about Pi, perhaps the most essential number in geometry, and possibly existence in general (the gravitational constant is a big deal too). Music has a tendency to be mathematic, as much as we'd like to ignore it. One group puts special emphasis on the science behind its music more than most: Tool. In order to honor both the band and Pi (we guess), we've assembled a brief primer on math 'n' the music of Tool.
  • Adam Jones Says New Tool Album is Done. Or That's What an Anonymous Source Told Us.

Tool is not a band to release an album every year, or every two years. The group has set a new standard for delay between new records, as it hasn't created anything since 2006's 10,000 Days. There hasn't been a breakup, as the group tours on occasion. Adam Jones, the band's guitarist and leader (realistically), first declared new music was on the way during 2011. And fans have been waiting since then. But the band has set out on a new tour, and Jones was reportedly overheard telling a fan that the new album was done.
