Queries about Amy Winehouse's cause of death reemerged ahead of the release of her biographical drama film, Back to Black.
The highly anticipated movie will hit theaters on Friday, May 17, although it has already received mixed reactions from critics due to the challenges the biopic reportedly failed to overcome. On the other hand, the film's release led fans to revisit Winehouse's life, including the cause of her death.
On July 23, 2011, U.S. media outlets and websites - including The Guardian, The New York Times and CNN - reported about the soul singer's death. She was 27.
Winehouse was reportedly found at her London flat, with authorities ruling she had been dead for several hours before it was officially declared at 3:54 p.m. on that day.
On the evening before her death, Winehouse's doctor, Christina Romete, reportedly noticed her patient looking tipsy but calm. She also disclosed during an inquest that the "Valerie" singer was still able to communicate clearly.
However, Winehouse's bodyguard found her dead the next day.
Coroner Suzanne Greenaway revealed that she died from alcohol toxicity and that her blood alcohol level was more than five times the legal limit. Two years after the loss, BBC confirmed a second inquest was launched due to coroner Greenaway's lack of qualifications for the role.
The probe's findings also determined that the singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning.

Winehouse's parents, Mitch and Janis, shared a statement after the singer's death.
"It is some relief to finally find out what happened to Amy. We understand there was alcohol in her system when she passed away; it is likely a build up of alcohol in her system over a number of days. The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time," the parents said.
Prior to Winehouse's death, she already struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. She had trips to rehab and several near-death experiences, but she ultimately died in 2011.
Her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, told Good Morning Britain that people were blaming him for Winehouse's death and that some also claimed he had something to do with her death.
"That's one of the reasons I wanted to speak today. Yeah, I do. I do," he said. "And that's OK. I can't change how other people feel about that."
