There has been little doubt in everyone's mind that Prince would end up being one of the headliners at this year's Glastonbury Festival. Everyone except the performer and organizers that is. Emily Eavis, the daughter of festival founder Michael Eavis, made it clear to BBC 6Music that the purple one would not be performing come June.
"He's someone that will be amazing one day, he's somebody that we haven't had, and we would love to have him at Glastonbury," Eavis said during an interview. "But no, no we haven't (booked Prince)."
It's understandable why everyone (including Music Times) started suspecting Prince as a potential headliner. For one, the performer has been playing surprise shows all over England recently. It seems obvious that he wouldn't continue to play surprise shows for four months in the lead-up to Glastonbury, but who knows. Prince has down weirder things in his life.
There is, of course, a suspicious contingent (again, including Music Times) who thinks Eavis might not be tell us the whole truth. Or any of the truth for that matter. The website for 3rdEyeGirl, the band that Prince leads nowadays, has a conspicuous gap between May 25 and July 15. The former date will feature a show in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis, and the latter will feature a festival date in Switzerland. A festival date in Switzerland that takes place a little more than two weeks post Glastonbury. In this age of internet information leaks, we could understand why Eavis would lie to keep her biggest act a surprise.
If she is telling the truth however and Prince is absent at the festival, there will be plenty of other acts to entertain the 120,000 concertgoers. One other music legend who hasn't gotten enough attention by our reckoning is Dolly Parton, and Arcade Fire is always a festival highlight.
