Death Grips Announce New Album 'Bottomless Pit' In Weird Way
Death Grips are back and doing it just as one might have thought - in the most unexpected ways. The experimental hip-hop duo have announced that they are releasing a brand new album Bottomless Pit. The announcement was made last night via the group's Facebook page with an accompanying 14 minute video to help tease the album in a totally Death Grips way.
As one might expect they left the announcement with no details beyond that the album is coming and it is being titled Bottomless Pit. No release date, tracklist or track number has been unveiled or even teased.
Instead they have left their fans with this video of late 1970's film star Karen Black reading dialogue Zach Hill wrote for her, but did not make the cut for a movie.
The Death Grips describe what is going on in the beginning of the video.
"Iconic 70's film star Karen Black passed away in August 2013. In February of that year, Karyn Rachtman introduced Ms. Black to Zach Hill. The two immediately hit it off. Zach had written a part for Karen for a film he was developing and gave her the pages for her scenes. Though she didn't know how the scenes would fit into the final film, she readily agreed to read her character's dialog on camera for Zach."
It is a long dialogue, clocking in at nearly 12 minutes, but is still interesting even with the odd camera angle.
The news of a new album comes as uncertainty regarding Death Grips has swirled around them ever since they announced they were breaking up last year. They released their album Jenny Death earlier this year and toured some off of it, which would fly in the face of that presumption and now more music is on its way.
