Ice Cube's son will reportedly star in Universal's upcoming N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton playing the role of his father.

According to The Wrap, multiple individuals have confirmed that O'Shea Jackson Jr. will play Cube.

Universal has not confirmed the casting.

Back in February, Cube made his push to get his son casted public.

"I've been trying to get that pushed along. Just wanna make sure that he's the best man for the job," he told The Guardian

The site also reports that while many others auditioned for the role, Cube convinced the good folks over at Universal to give his son a shot.

Eazy-E's son reportedly wants in on the project too as he has been lobbying for a role.

The site reveals that Universal could announce the main cast before the end of the week. Finalizing the cast would mark the end of a long search.

Casting for the film began in March.

Ice Cube is producing the film alongside Dr. Dre and Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods-Wright

Compton will trace the roots of N.W.A. and their rise to stardom.

Cube has previously described the script, written by Jonathan Herman, as a comprehensive "dramatic story that encompasses hip-hop, dope-dealing, Reaganomics, AIDS, LAPD, rap feuds, FBI, PMRC, the Parental Advisory stickers on the records... all of it."

F. Gary Gray is attached to helm the project.

Reports say it is unclear whether Straight Outta Compton has received an official green light from Universal yet, but word is Gray recently shot an end-credits sequence for the film featuring Ice Cube and Dr. Dre discussing the group's legacy.
