When Ariana Grande came on the scene, she broke out with her blend of soft R&B and modern pop (think: "Baby I"). And though her sophomore effort moved slightly away from the sound in favor of on-trend pop hits ("One Last Time," "Break Free") those cool vibes have come back in full force. On Monday (April 18), just one month ahead of the release of Dangerous Woman, Grande released her Lil Wayne collaboration "Let Me Love You."
Grande's already hushed tones are exceptionally soft in "Let Me Love You." Over chilled out, soft beats from Tommy Jones, Grande whispers and coos about breaking up with her ex and finding a little bit of comfort with someone else for the evening. Because, hey, if you can't love who you want to love, you may as well find someone to use your energy on.
This is a sentiment that is echoed exactly in Lil Wayne's featured verse. He matched Grande's relaxed vibes seamlessly and spits a few clever double entendres about giving a woman what she wants when she's looking for a little love, in whatever form. "What you need your ex for? I'm triple X, Lord," Weezy spits at one point.
Fair.
"Let Me Love You" may miss the sort of fiery hook that helped Grande's similarly-themed hit "Love Me Harder" such a success, but it gels flawlessly with the subdued offerings Grande has showed so far from what is sure to be her most mature record to date.
"Let Me Love You" is the latest song to be released from Grande's forthcoming third studio album Dangerous Woman, which is due for official release on May 20. "Let Me Love You" follows the album's lead single "Dangerous Woman and teaser track "Be Alright," which Grande debuted on Saturday Night Live last month.
