Girl Power Guide to Mysteryland USA 2016: 7 Female DJs to Catch on Woodstock ‘69 Grounds

If you're counting down the hours until Mysteryland USA kicks off this weekend, you probably already know the set times for ID&T's Bethel Woods-based EDM festival by heart. It goes without saying that most "Nomads" will flock to the Main Stage for headliners Odesza, Skrillex and Bassnectar, but with a diverse lineup of over 90 artists, those big name favorites are just the tip of the iceberg. While dancing beyond the Main Stage, celebrate girl power by checking out our guide to some of the female DJs and producers who will be gracing the decks this weekend on the site of Woodstock '69.

Although countless female artists and label heads such as Nina Las Vegas, Maya Jane Coles and Ellen Allien have contributed just as much to the ever-evolving dance music scene as their male counterparts, they tend to be absent from year-end lists and summer festival lineups. That's why we think it's awesome to see so many badass females on this year's Mysteryland lineup. Here are seven leading ladies of electronic music to catch this weekend:

01. Mija

Sunday will be nothing short of epic: Bassnectar, Zeds Dead, Claude VonStroke, Hudson Mohawke, Ryan Hemsworth, Lido, XXYYXX, Keys N Krates, Machinedrum and Mija are just some of the artists throwing down from dusk until after midnight. Born Amber Giles, the pastel turquoise-haired OWSLA producer and DJ is making her return to Mysteryland USA following last year's stellar performance in the sweaty tent Webster Hall curated.

This year, she's performing at The Boat stage, which is actually designed as a boat and typically hosts artists that favor the heavier, low end. If you aren't already head-over-heels for her unique sound, her recent Diplo and Friends set for the BBC is a great place to start. Listen here.

02. Rezz

Rezz is often described as Gesaffelstein's female counterpart, so it's fitting that they're both throwing down Friday evening. The dark techno producer and DJ got started in 2013 and has already released a number of EPs and singles via Deadmau5's Mau5trap label and OWSLA's NEST HQ among others.

If the mix she did for Thump earlier this year is any indication of what to expect this Friday, all who visit the Main Stage at 6:15 p.m. are in for a treat in the form of a dark, deep tech-house set.

03. Jubilee

The Brooklyn-via-Miami DJ and producer known as Jubilee is one of the festival's featured emerging artists. Catch her Sunday afternoon starting at 2:45 p.m. on The Boat.

A few months back she dropped an exclusive mix for Mysteryland in which she mixes tracks by Kelela, Young Thug, Brenmar, Plastician and Drake among others. Give it a listen below:

04. Francesca Lombardo

Francesca Lombardo is classically trained, and it shows when she gets behind the decks. She's dropped some beautiful deep house sets at Robot Heart's curated Burning Man stage over the years, which you can check out on her SoundCloud. Catch her in-between Autograf and Infinity Ink (at 8:00 p.m.) at the Big Top tent on Saturday.

05. Eau Claire

Eau Claire is the definition of a "rising star." She burst on the scene seemingly out of nowhere about two years ago with her still-ongoing "Feed Me Disco" mix series, which you can hear most of on her SoundCloud. Her feel good house-y nu disco and indie dance stylings are sure to set the mood for Saturday evening when she throws down from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at BangOn!NYC's stage.

06. Illexxandra

Brooklyn-based DJ extraordinaire Illexxandra is perhaps best known for her residencies with party series like Rubulad and Vitamin B, and while she has a penchant for tropical breakbeat her sets are pretty eclectic and often include some jungle and lots of bass. She's playing the BangOn!NYC tent Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Listen to her here

07. Anna Morgan

Before Illexxandra's set, Anna Morgan is kicking-off Sunday's festivities. The NYC DJ is also a resident at Vitamin B as well as the JunXion. She's all about bass-heavy dancehall infused with a little bit of everything including dubstep, jungle, zouk bass and other global club sounds. Check out her SoundCloud here
