Meadows Festival 2016 took place over the weekend in the parking lot at Citi Field in Queens, New York. Beyond the numerous sets that went down from the likes of J. Cole, Grimes, ZHU, Chance The Rapper and Kygo, Kanye West made headlines for other reasons. He had to cut his set short due to a family emergency, which was later revealed to be because his wife Kim Kardashian was robbed at gun point in her Paris apartment.
A spokesman for the celebrity said she was "badly shaken but physically unharmed" after the whole incident according to CNN.
According to the interior ministry, five men dressed as police officers threatened the mansion concierge where she was staying, handcuffed him and forced him to open the apartment. Two entered, held a gun to Kardashian's head. She was put in the bathroom as the men stole nearly $10 million in jewelry from her place. No one was physically hurt and the men did not fire their weapons.
Kanye West cut his set short last night at Meadows Festival where he was the main stage headliner after presumably hearing the news. During the middle of performing "Heartless," he announced the crowd that he had a family emergency and was leaving. The crowd was stunned, especially because he had been in such a groove and was 30 minutes late to begin with. However family is what matters first.
The festival released the following statement shortly after the incident.
"Due to a family emergency, Kanye West was forced to end his performance towards the end of his set. We appreciate the great show he put on for fans to close out the inaugural Meadows Festival. Our thoughts are with West and his family."
