Surprise! The Crocodile Dundee franchise is getting a revival and there's already a trailer out starring Danny McBride as the offspring of the famous hunter.

This sequel titled Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home will see the return of Paul Hogan as the legendary Mick "Crocodile" Dundee. It will introduce the Crocodile Dundee's adventures to a new generation after the original film took the world by storm. Two other sequels have been made so far.

Amid so many other sequels in the works, this one is welcome and old fans need not be concerned that this revival won't honor the original. Even in the 40-second sneak peek, the upcoming film manages to pay tribute to Crocodile Dundee.

"That's not a knife," the new Dundee says, echoing the film franchise's iconic line. "That's a knife!"

Of course, it has the participation and stamp of approval of the man who made Crocodile Dundee famous. Hogan embraces the opportunity to jump back into character and introduce his most well-known character to a new legion of moviegoers.

Hogan explains that Crocodile Dundee has survived as a piece of cinema over the decades, adding that the film was a significant part of his life and definitely among his proudest achievements.

"Throughout the past few years, I've been thinking about how to bring Dundee to a new generation," he adds. "I'm excited to introduce the new Crocodile Dundee to the world and look forward to sharing more news about those involved very soon."

It might be a surprise to see McBride take on the iconic Australian role. On his part, however, the Pineapple Express actor is confident he can capture the spirit of Dundee.

"To be a real Crocodile Dundee, I think 95% of it is the vest and then 5% is just being able to not fall down and stay on your feet," McBride says.

The sequel will see Brian Dundee searching the Australian Outback for his famous father who has mysteriously disappeared in the wild. Crocodile's son was raised in the city. He is wholly unfamiliar and ill-equipped for a journey down under, but he takes on the adventure of a lifetime in a crazy attempt to find the legend he calls dad.

Even with the trailer and interviews with the cast, not everyone is convinced that the upcoming Dundee movie is actually real. Birth Movies Death argues that the teaser could simply be a viral marketing campaign for something related to the Superbowl. After all, the Superbowl has become one of the biggest entertainment events of the year in the United States.

Dundee: The Son of the Legend Returns Home will reportedly hit theaters this coming summer. It will be one of many highly anticipated films slated for the season.
