Since Shakira split from her ex-partner, Gerard Piqué, the singer used the devastating experience to inspire her music. She recently dropped the song "Ùltima," which was about her former lover, but she clarified that this would be the last track about him.

The Colombian singer sat down for an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, during which she revealed that she will no longer write music inspired by her ex and that this latest single will be the last song about him.

According to People magazine, the "Ùltima" is the last song from her new album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don't Cry Anymore), and it was a last-minute addition as she wrote it when "there was no more time" to add other tracks in the record.

"I said, I got one more song here and it's like, it's -- I gotta spit it out or I won't be able to, you know. I'll choke. I need to get this one out," she explained.

Shakira's New Song Almost Didn't Make It to Her New Album

By the time she was done writing the song, the musician had said her record label, Sony, initially disagreed with her adding the track at the last minute because there was no more time, and they needed the album to be shipped already for the vinyl to come on time.

"They were like, 'It's time to, it's time to let it go, Shakira let it go.' Now I'm like, 'No, no, no, no. But there's one more, there's one more,'" she explained.

Shakira then recorded and mixed the song, and when she shared it with her record label, they were surprised, and it touched their hearts.

The musician noted that music connects people to the same experience or feeling, and even though they aren't going through the same thing, they still have empathy.

"Ùltima" was so emotional that Sony's marketing head started to cry, and Shakira said she had never seen a man cry in her studio before.

Later on, Shakira said she was glad the track could make it to the album's final cut even though it was the last song.

She also declared it was "the last song I write to him."

The singer's 12th studio album will be available for purchase and streaming on major music platforms starting March 22, 2024. It will feature 16 songs and a handful of collaborations with other artists, such as Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, and more.
