Meghan Trainor self-love single "All About That Bass" remains the No. 1 song in the country, more than 12 weeks after it entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Although its success has given Trainor the attention she previously didn't receive behind the scenes as a songwriter, she has revealed that the song was originally shopped around to artists including Beyoncé.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Trainor, who had previously written songs for Rascal Flatts, Sabrina Carpenter, and R5, confirmed that the track could've ended up in the hands of another artist. However, she points out that it's possible that Beyoncé and the other artists never heard the demo for themselves.

"I'll bet some of them didn't even know the song was being pitched to them," she said. "Some artists get thousands of songs pitched and they never know, so Beyoncé herself probably never heard it."

Trainor goes on to explain the process of shopping the track, saying that label representatives had trouble identifying an appropriate artist to record the song.

"Most of these other artists' A&R teams said they couldn't do anything with the song because they didn't have [the right] artist. That was the problem-there weren't any singers at the time [who fit the song]. Adele was the only one, but she wasn't rapping and singing sassy songs with swears in them. But I'm down-I get all the performing royalties!"

Elsewhere in the interview, she talks about her views on feminism, overnight fame, the criticism she's received, and the direction of her upcoming album.
