Few publications touch on as many genres as Pitchfork, which is probably why we trust their list of the Top 100 tracks of the year more than others. Keep an eye for Music Times own list of the Top 25 tracks of the year later this month but for now check out the full Pitchfork list here. Here's the Top 10 for those who don't want to waste time counting down from 100:
10) "Love Never Felt So Good" by Michael Jackson
Few albums were panned as hard by Pitchfork (or any music media) than the posthumous Michael Jackson new music collection Xscape. The editors obviously found something to love however as the single "Love Never Felt So Good" cracked the end-of-year Top 10.
09) "Move That Dope" by Future feat. Pharrell Williams, Pusha T and Casino
Few songs were as alternate-meaning-of-dope during 2014 as "Move That Dope." Spoiler alert...watch out for this one on another publication's end of year list as well.
08) "Queen" by Perfume Genius
Perfume Genius's album Too Bright got glowing reviews from nearly every publication this year and yet its been lacking in end-of-year honors. "Queen" is one of two tracks featured in the Pitchfork Top 100 as "Fool" also placed at no. 61.
07) "***Flawless" by Beyoncé feat. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Beyoncé was another performer who managed to land two singles in this year's Top 100 as her "***Flawless" (the original version" landed in the Top 10. "Partition" didn't do too badly either, taking the no. 26 spot.
06) "Close Your Eyes and Count To F--K" by Run The Jewels feat. Zach De La Rocha
Run The Jewels, unsurprisingly, dominated the hip-hop singles this year in Pitchfork's eyes, landing both this hot number as well as no. 49 "Blockbuster Night Part 1" off of the duo's second album.
05) "Red Eyes" by The War on Drugs
The War on Drugs was yet another group to land two hits off of its 2014 album into the Top 100: "An Ocean In Between The Waves" landed at no. 40 while this single affirms that guitar rock is okay with one of the foremost magazines in terms of "hipness." Bias: Your correspondent featured this track as his personal no. 17 of the year.
04) "Can't Do Without You" by Caribou
Dan Snaith didn't just have one of the year's best songs in "Can't Do Without You" according to Pitchfork: The magazine also granted his album Our Love its vaunted "Best New Music" badge.
03) "Two Weeks" by FKA Twigs
FKA Twigs took bronze medal for the year-in-songs with her track "Two Weeks" while also landing a respectable no. 35 finish for "Pendulum."
02) "Club Going Up on a Tuesday" by iLoveMakonnen feat. Drake
Emcee iLoveMakonnen is going to be the guy to keep an eye on as we enter 2015. He's already got big name friends in Drake as it seems and he also landed a second song on this year's list, with "I Don't Sell Molly No More" just barely squeezing in at no. 92.
01) "Seasons (Waiting On You)" by Future Islands
An impressive choice in that this single was also chosen by NME as its favorite song of the year. Tough to deny two gold medal salutes from two major music imprints from two distinctly different markets.
