Muse may be acting like Drones for its upcoming album, but the band is very live in a series of new recordings. Over the last few weeks, the "Madness" rockers have released a series of short video snippets on Instagram, teasing the recording process for the long-anticipated The 2nd Law follow-up.

The first Muse teaser was posted on Feb. 6 and featured guitarist Christopher Wolstenholme thrashing away on the guitar. The sludgy, deep riff is fast and loose, not like something heard on a hard rock album.

Though the videos paused for a few days, over the last week, Muse has dropped three more teasers featuring ominous studio sounds and creepy photographs of the band, with their eyes blacked out as if they were soulless.

The videos feature the band discussing feedback, playing around with basslines, talking over distortion on "one of the new ones" (is it all too much distortion or does it sound OK?) and discussing being in control.

Meanwhile, all the images show the band on various high-profile magazine covers, including Rolling Stone and NME, with their eyes blacked out and headlines scribbled over with a thick black marker. And they're being promoted with the band hashtag #MuseDrones. Watch the teasers below:

Concrete details surrounding Drones have yet to be revealed, including a release date, title and tracklist, though it's safe to say the album is likely to be released in 2015. Drones will be Muse's seventh studio album overall and the immediate follow-up to The 2nd Law, which spawned Muse's biggest U.S. hits to date with "The Resistance" and "Madness."
