With signing T.I. to a distribution deal and supporting Kanye's latest album release, Roc Nation has been on fire all month. Now add Mayaeni to the list: The singer premiered her mixtape, Basement Kid, yesterday and it is amazing.

The Detroit-born songstress is known for covering A$AP Rocky's "L$D" and her three-track mixtape features covers of Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C," Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By" and J. Cole's "G.O.M.D." All three perfectly channel her soulful flow.

The singer spoke with Complex about the mixtape.

Basement Kid is a homage to my past. I used to love going to the record store and buying cassette tapes that had the instrumental track on it," she said. “I would go home and run straight to the basement and spend hours using my dad's Fostex Cassette eight-track recorder I'd write and record my own songs over the instrumentals and make remixes/mashups.This is what I've created alone in a dark basement and I wanted to bring it to light. Basement Kid is a homage to my past. It's for the true lovers of underground music."

The mixtape is the perfect combination of soulful R&B, hip-hop elites and hip-hop history. While paying tribute to the music she grew up listening to and has grown to love, Mayaeni reminds us all what we have been missing out on.
