Selena Gomez recently revealed that she has decided to take a break from her music career to look after her health. The "Kill Em with Kindness" singer noted that during the past few months, she had been dealing with depression, panic attacks and anxiety, which were identified as the side effects of lupus.
After coming back from her Revival World Tour, Gomez decided to go on a hiatus in order to give herself time to deal with her illness. According to a source close to the pop star, Gomez's break will last for a year.
"As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways," Gomez told People. "I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can de side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.
"I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off," the singer added. "Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best."
Lupus is a chronic disease that attacks the body's immune system. The illness can cause various symptoms including swollen joints, fever, fatigue, rashes, anemia, hair loss and ulcer.
