Even in the middle of her conception, Katy Perry returns to her element with the release of her music video for a new single, "Daisies," on Friday, May 15.
The music video, produced and directed by Liza Voloshin, shows Perry immaculate in her white dress and with her growing baby bump in full display. The visual for "Daisies" also seemed to double as a maternity shoot in the polaroid-filtered sequences that showed the 35-year-old expectant mother walking in a field of flowers, a forest stream, and a rocky hill.
In an Instagram post, Voloshin described her work with Katy Perry as "visual arts and polaroids in the time of social distancing."
Perry opened with a vintage-looking close-up, soon revealing her to be in the middle of a field of daisies. The singer-songwriter then effortlessly belted the chorus, "They tell me that I'm crazy, but I'll never let 'em change me/ 'Til they cover me in daisies, daisies, daisies."
In her Twitter post, Perry explained that she wrote the song "a couple months ago as a call to remain true to the course you've set for yourself, regardless of what others may think." The "Roar" singer also added that it had taken a new meaning for her recently about what the rest of the world currently experiences.
"Daisies" is the first song from Katy Perry's upcoming sixth studio album and co-wrote it together with Jacob Kasher and rapper Jon Bellion. She first announced the song last May 7, featuring cover art with her in the middle of a field of daisies, accompanied by the caption "THE MUSIC MUST GO ON."
Aside from being the title of her new single, fans of Katy Perry also pointed out the significance of the flower daisy to the singer and her fiance, actor Orlando Bloom. The 43-year-old "Lord of the Rings" star famously gave Perry a unique flower-shaped engagement ring on Valentines' Day last year, which the singer posted on her Instagram account with the caption "Full bloom."
The American Idol judge also teamed up with music streaming service Amazon Music and will have her perform a stripped-down version of "Daisies," together with her other hits such as "Roar" and "Never Really Over." Perry will also host a Q&A session with her fans later Friday, May 15, starting at 1 PM ET.
Aside from Amazon Music, her new song will also be featured on her "In The House" segment, also on Friday, May 15, starting at 7:30 PM EST. Katy Kats, as her fanbase, is commonly known, will not only hear "Daisies," but will also hear the story behind it and even learn how to play the song. "In The House" is the virtual event hosted by video chatting app Houseparty, where celebrities perform, entertain and interact with fans starting from May 15 to May 17. Her interactive "at-home" segment will be replayed 12 hours later, on Saturday, May 16, at 6:30 AM EDT.
Her weekend "tour" in support of her new single will culminate in her debut television performance at the much-awaited 18th season finale of the reality singing competition American Idol. Katy Perry is among the show's judges, together with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
