The Weeknd has now inked a new deal with Universal Music that could probably lead to a new trajectory in his already-bustling music career.

But with the new re-inked agreement, what's new in this deal?

The Weeknd Signs Long-Term Deal With Universal Music Group

According to Variety, Universal Music Group has announced that The Weeknd recently signed a new long-term partnership deal with the company for his recorded music, publishing, merchandise, and video.

The Weeknd, known formally as Abel Tesfaye, has been with Universal Music Group's Republic Records since 2012 as his label home and partner. Republic Records will remain the singer's partner for his future recorded music releases on the newly signed deal.

Universal Music Publishing shall now be administering all of The Weeknd's future works and his entire songwriting catalog moving forward until the expiration of his current commitment with Kobalt Music Group.

UMG's Brand Management and Merchandise Company, Bravado, will take point and continue working closely with the 32-year-old singer and XO to expand further and develop their future project and releases' global merchandising, branding, eCommerce, and retail licensing opportunities.

Not only this, but the long-term partnership deal shall also cover The Weeknd's future audiovisual projects (music videos) with Republic Records and Universal Music Group.

Universal Music Group Executives Reiterates Welcome For The Weeknd

The Weeknd is one of Universal Music Group's biggest talents; that is why the company's top executives are very much enthused about the singer re-inking a long-term deal with them.

UMG chairman-CEO Lucian Grainge described Abel as "one of music's most creative and important artists to date. He also reiterated how honored they were to work closely with Abel for the past few years.

"Through this expanded and multi-faceted agreement, UMPG, Republic and Bravado global teams will be empowered to work closely together under one roof, maximizing opportunities and value for the Weeknd's artistry in unprecedented ways," UMPG chairman-CEO Jody Gerson said.

To date, The Weeknd is one of the best-selling music artists globally, selling over 75 million albums worldwide.

Abel's most successful record, "Blinding Lights," holds the record for Billboard's longest-charting song for lasting an unprecedented 90 weeks on the Hot 100 singles charts.

Most recently, The Weeknd last-minutely headlined Coachella 2022's Day 3 with Swedish House Mafia after Kanye West pulled out on the bill.

His new album, "Dawn FM" is also seeing its world tour sometime this summer with Doja Cat. "After Hours Till Dawn" will traverse North America, Europe, South America, Australia, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
