New York drill rapper Tjay was reportedly shot multiple times in New Jersey, reports said recently.

Tjay was one of the many drill rappers currently in the hot eyes of the authorities for their alleged criminal, violent behavior on social media and on the streets.

The news came days since the New York State Senate has finally passed the "Rap Music On Trial Bill," which is now being urged to be adopted into federal law.

Lil Tjay Shot in New Jersey

TMZ initially reported the incident where Lil Tjay, formally known as Tione Jayden Merritt, was shot multiple times after midnight on Wednesday, Jun. 22, 2022.

Although reports revealed that he is badly injured, the exact extent of his injuries is currently undetermined.

Begen County Prosecutor's Office (BCPO) said in a statement that they responded to a call past midnight about a shooting that took place in The Promenade, Edgewater, New Jersey.

Unfortunately, upon arriving at the scene, the police found the 22-year-old rapper with "multiple gunshot wounds."

Another report came in noting that a second incident took place in another area in the same town. Authorities have located another victim of the same age with a gunshot wound too.

Merritt and the unnamed victim were both rushed to the hospital for treatment. Merritt is currently undergoing emergency surgery for his severe injuries.

Per TMZ, the suspects for the shooting remain at large. As of this writing, no further information about the ongoing investigation is available to the public.

This is not the first time that the rapper has had a violent encounter. Last November, Lil Tjay was shot on camera threatening a fan while performing in Manchester.

"Who wanna fight? Who gangsta enough to do that? You wanna fight? Pull up to the front. Swear to God," the rapper said.

'Rap Music on Trial' Bill Adopted To Federal Law?

Although no motive has been revealed yet to the public on the cause of Lil Tjay's critical condition, however, New York drill rappers like him are often linked to illegal criminal activities in the city.

The rise of deaths within the drill community and gang-related violence in New York City spiked last year, which prompted Mayor Eric Adams to launch a full attack on the rap subgenre.

However, the New York State Senate has finally passed the 'Rap Music on Trial' bill, which seeks authorities and prosecutors to limit the use of "creative expression" as evidence of a crime - beneficial for drill rappers whose lyrics are often used against them.

300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records top execs are also rallying with other artists to institute the 'Rap Music on Trial' Bill to be adopted into a full-blown federal law.

This came on the heels of the massive indictment that arrested Young Thug and Gunna last May 2022, which used their song lyrics against them.
