The Edge has been having thoughts about quitting U2, but he always manages to stop himself.
Amid U2's disbandment, the band ultimately debunked the buzz and announced its upcoming Las Vegas residency. The split rumors started after U2 confirmed it would perform with drummer Larry Mullen as the member needs more time to recuperate due to health-related issues.
As his absence intensified the disbandment rumors, The Edge dismissed the talks in a new interview and said they had heard the same story before. He also spoke about having thoughts about leaving the band.
Speaking with The Telegraph, The Edge admitted that he always thinks about leaving and doing something more fun whenever he gets dejected in the band. However, he revealed that he also has instant realizations about what he wants to do.
"Then I'd think, 'Well, I love music, but do I want to be a solo artist? Nah. So I'd have to find a really good singer. OK, so I'll work with Bono," he said. "But we absolutely need a completely unique rhythm section that don't sound like every other rock band. I guess that would be Adam [Clayton] and Larry."
As to how he stops himself from quitting, The Edge said he reinvents U2 in his mind and gets inspired again.
According to the guitarist, the members know they shine when they are together. With that, they believe it will be hard to break up U2.
Why U2 Will Still Perform Amid Larry Mullen's Absence
While he is the one who thinks about quitting, U2 - as a whole - gets bombarded with rumors that it will disband.
During the same interview, the guitarist expressed the band's disappointment as Mullen would not be able to join them. He revealed that U2 expected to have its four founding members play on stage.

The Edge added that U2 almost never does not do the show if the members make a commitment. He said they would miss Larry as their drummer during his absence, but the band members are still okay with proceeding without following the original plan.
U2 will have its Las Vegas residency this fall. The band announced the exciting news through a Super Bowl commercial. Instead of Mullen, several drummers will take over the drum seat and play with Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton.
