Taylor Swift is finally releasing "Cruel Summer" as a single, is it because she's experiencing the story behind the song all over again?

"Cruel Summer" is a song from Swift's 2019 album "Lover," and it follows the singer having a summer love affair that ends up in flames.

The famous bridge which fans have taken a liking to shouting the lyrics goes: "I'm drunk in the back of the car/ And I cried like a baby coming home from the bar/ Said, "I'm fine, " but it wasn't true/ I don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you/ And I snuck in through the garden gate/ Every night that summer just to seal my fate/ And I screamed for whatever it's worth/ ' love you,' ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?"

The singer has not really explicitly revealed what the song is about, but many suspect it might be one of those short-term flights that were not meant to be.

Short-term fling is what best describes Swift's recent ex Matty Healy of The 1975; however, it cannot be said the same for her relationship with actor Joe Alwyn as they dated for six years.

Taylor Swift's 'Cruel Sumer'

Just before summer kicked in, Swift was wrapped in several controversies: her breakup with Alwyn, her relationship with Healy, and her silence regarding the latter's problematic behavior.

According to reports, though, despite moving on quite quickly from Alwyn, Swift might still be very much brokenhearted from what went down between them.

This might be even more true after news outlets reported seeing the actor out and about with a mystery blonde woman on June 16.

In fact, fans think that the "Anti-Hero" singer might already be aware of Alwyn's new rumored love as the singer performed "Mr. Perfectly Fine" during her "The Eras" tour last weekend.

Taylor Swift's Highly Anticipated Single

Despite the shocking news of Alwyn moving on with someone new, and Swift singing about an ex who appears perfectly fine after a split, fans think that the "Cruel Summer" release has nothing to do with the singer's current relationship status.

In fact, it might just simply be because she wanted to release it: "I just need to let you know something: 'Cruel Summer,' that song was my pride and joy on that album,

"You have conversations before the album comes out. Everybody around weighs in on what they think should be singles. I was finally, finally about to have my favorite song become the single - off of 'Lover.'"
