HAIM Plays With Kesha, Jenny Lewis, Ed Droste, Rostam Batmanglij
To commemorate the life of a late friend, Sammi Kane Kraft, Haim generated Sam Jam, a benefit concert in which all proceeds were given to the Our House Grief Support Center. Friends and family of the four-piece band joined them on stage to show support, such as Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and Jenny Lewis. The Troubadour in Los Angeles hosted the charity concert for the close companion of Haim, who was tragically killed at just 20 years old by a drunk driver in 2012. Kraft's impressive baseball talents once landed her a role in the film 'Bad News Bears.' Lewis, known for her participation in Rilo Kiley and The Postal Service, perfomed her newest song titled "Girl on Girl." With the assisted talents of Haim, the collaboraion gained heavy participation, chanting and clapping from the crowd along to the beat. -
Ryan Adams, Natalie Prass Cover 'Dirty Dancing'
Count me among those who worship at the altar of indie rocker Ryan Adams. He is quite simply one of the best when it comes to doing an amazing cover of classic songs. From Oasis's "Wonderwall" to Alice in Chains's "Down in a Hole" and so many in between, he never fails to impress. During a live show Tuesday, March 3, in Cork, Ireland, Adams and opening act Natalie Prass took on a classic from the soundtrack to 1980s classic 'Dirty Dancing.' No, it wasn't "(I've Had) the Time of My Life," as you might expect, but instead leading man Patrick Swayze's song "She's Like the Wind." It was everything you could have hoped for and more. -

While Adams's set spanned recordings from 2002 until last year ("Stay with Me"), Lewis relied heavily on her recent "The Voyager" LP with tunes like "Just One of the Guys." Judd Apatow hosted "The Late Late Show" last night (Jan. 23) during this brief period of guest hosts before James Corden officially takes over for Craig Ferguson. Musical guest Ryan Adams performed the lead single, "Gimme Something Good," from his new, self-titled effort with producer/musician Don Was on bass. The performance was powerful, especially considering the fact that he just split from his wife of nearly six years, Mandy Moore. -

Music Times 10 Best Albums of 2014; St. Vincent, The War on Drugs, Jack White & More...Who Takes No. 1?
Glares were exchanged. Words were said that can't be taken back. Punches weren't quite thrown, although two Music Times editors (that won't be named) did engage in a karate chop battle reminiscent of the Clark Griswold vs. Plastic Lawn Reindeer battle of '91. When all was said and done however, the staff had managed to narrow a list of 943 albums down to a mere 10. Old standards like Jack White and Beck proved that their status within the music community was intact, and newer, much buzzed about acts including Sturgill Simpson proved themselves worthy of consideration during the previous 12 months.
