Supergroups are possibly the most hit-or-miss ventures in the music industry. Those attempting to make such a band come together must tread lightly because, no matter what, you're going to a lot of guff about the passé subject from fans and critics. Luckily for the unfortunately named supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra (don't give up on them just yet!), the members featured in this outfit are too enticing to ignore. Musicians from Alice in Chains, Dethklok, Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Mars Volta make up this band, and thanks to some Instagram videos that premiered this week, you can listen to clips of new songs below. -

Dillinger Escape Plan isn't the most crowd-pleasing of options for the typical rock festival but they keep getting calls to perform, somewhat to the confusion of guitarist and founder Ben Weinman. He spoke to Music Times about writing music in 15/16, destroying both equipment and bodies on stage, and run ins with Colombian drug cartels in advance of his band appearing at Rock On The Range in Columbus, Ohio. -
"The Elvis Influence" Application from Spotify Tracks Any Musician Back to Elvis Presley, Regardless of Genre
Yesterday would have been Elvis Presley's 80th birthday and we just can't get enough of the awesome coverage that folks on the internet have come up with to mark the occasion. Spotify's Insights blog once again uses data gathered by its Echo Nest, this time to create "The Elvis Influence," an application that traces any performer you enter all the way back to Elvis by way of influence. Some performers obviously have longer trails back to The King than others so often, unlike Kevin Bacon, you need more than six steps to get back. -
