• 2016 Playboy Jazz Festival: Jon Batiste & Stay Human, Robert Cray Band Added to Lineup

    The Playboy Jazz Festival released the final names of musical acts in their 2016 lineup on Tuesday (March 1) and it's lit! Jon Batiste & Stay Human and the Robert Cray Band are among the several artists scheduled to take the stage. The 38th annual event, which was founded by Hugh Hefner in Chicago in 1959, will take place for two days in Los Angeles this spring.
  • Stephen Colbert Names Jon Batiste as Bandleader for 'Late Show'

    Stephen Colbert and CBS made a big announcement yesterday, naming Jon Batiste as his bandleader for the Late Show when the comedian debuts on September 8. It's too early to make David Letterman comparisons, but if Colbert and Batiste have a relationship as friendly as the former Late Show host and Paul Shaffer, we'll be seeing a lot of the jazz musician for years to come.

    Music Times was fortunate in that figureheads such as Stephen Colbert didn't book media passes for Lollapalooza, which allowed us to get a chance to interview Jon Batiste. The jazz and general music expert (he got his Master's degree in music from Juilliard and serves as the Associate Artistic Director for the National Jazz Museum) played The Grove stage with his band Stay Human at Chicago's premier music festival before swinging by to chat with us.
