British actor Joseph Fiennes was recently cast in a comedic TV movie in the UK as music icon Michael Jackson. No, these two people do not share the same skin color, which is obviously making this project very scandalous. While Fiennes admits that he understands the backlash of a white actor portraying an African-American in a production, this week he came to his own defense, claiming that the TV special is satirical, so, you know, who cares? Clearly, a lot of people care, so we're basically counting down until the 45-year-old white actor quits this project. -
Michael Jackson Told Oprah He Wouldn't Want to be Played by a White Actor in 1993 Inteview
As the entertainment world gears up for the Sky Arts TV comedy 'Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon,' the choice to cast white actor Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson has been controversial to say the least. Adding to the controversy, a 1993 video of an Oprah Winfrey interview has been unearthed where he told the host that he wouldn’t want to be played by a white actor. -
Joseph Fiennes Cast as Michael Jackson in 9/11 TV Movie Special
After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001, a celebrity road trip allegedly took place involving Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson leaving New York City. At least, this is the subject matter of an upcoming British made-for-TV movie produced for the Sky Arts network. Whether or not this story is true is beside the point because the project is moving forward and will embellish on the situation rather than take from actual facts. It's a comedy, after all. The cast reportedly includes Brian Cox as Brand, Stockard Channing as Taylor and Joseph Fiennes, a white actor, as Jackson, an African-American music icon. This last casting news should stand out, especially considering the trending controversy of the lack of diversity in the list of nominees for the 2016 Oscars.
