• From David Bowie to Sara Bareilles: Pop Stars on the Broadway Stage

From Paul Simon's disastrous The Capeman to the variety of artists who contributed songs to Broadway's upcoming The SpongeBob Musical, pop musicians have become increasingly more involved with Broadway over the last several decades. Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is the latest.
  • Josh Groban & Sarah McLachlan to Tour Next Summer, Tickets Rising Fast!

Multi-platinum selling artist Josh Groban announced last month that he will be hitting the road this summer to support his hugely successful 2015 release, 'Stages,' which features a collection of songs from Broadway musicals. The tour, which he has penned 'Josh Groban: On Stage,' will kick off on July 15 in New Orleans and will run until August 26 in Los Angeles. Groban's tour will include Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan for all dates, and the ticket demand has quickly risen to see the dynamic pair perform live this summer.
  • 'Fun Home' and 'The King and I' Win Big, Josh Groban Performs at Tony Awards

'Fun Home,' 'The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night Time' and 'The King and I' were among the big winners at last night's Tony Awards, taking home prizes for the best theatre in New York. The first of those plays, which won the night's "big" big award for Best Musical, was the first in the history of the show to win that prize and be written entirely by women. Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron wrote the hit, which focuses on a daughter and an in-the-closet father dealing with their homosexuality, also focusing on the funeral home they run.
  • Twenty One Pilots, Zedd, Jamie Foxx and Faith No More Debut in Albums Chart Top 10

Twenty One Pilots had never sold more than 11,000 copies of an album in one week prior to the release of Blurryface last week, but that record didn't need streaming to top the Billboard 200. It also comes in at no. 1 on the albums chart, selling 134,000 copies (more than 91 percent of the album's Billboard 200 total came from actual album sales).
  • 'Pitch Perfect 2' Soundtrack Sales Up, Snoop Dogg 'Bush' Numbers Down

'Pitch Perfect 2' might not have a "Cups" yet (technically Anna Kendrick does perform her song on the new soundtrack but it's not a Hot 100 smash anymore) but it still managed something that the previous film's song collection didn't: topping the albums charts. The record, boosted by medleys featuring dozens of hit songs, won the sales battle this week by moving 91,000 copies.
  • Soundtracks Dominate Billboard 200 as 'Pitch Perfect 2' Debuts on Top, Joined by 'Fifty Shades' and 'Furious 7'

Another week and another soundtrack atop the Billboard 200, as the song collection from 'Pitch Perfect 2' grabs the no. 1 spot by moving 107,000 equivalent albums sold. The original film's soundtrack peaked at no. 3 on the Billboard 200, although its single "Cups" was a smash on the download charts. The current film already out-earned the first installment, which brought additional attention to the album as well.
  • Mumford & Sons Drops, Tech N9ne Sets Personal Record on Albums Chart

This week Warner Music became the first major label to report higher earnings from streaming than digital downloads, but album sales seem to be doing alright for Mumford & Sons, which tops the sales chart by selling 249,000 copies of 'Wilder Mind' this week. That's a sizable number but more than a 50 percent drop off from the band's previous album, 'Babel,' which debuted with 600,000 copies sold (the biggest rock debut of the decade thus far, in the band's defense).
  • Mumford & Sons Top Billboard 200, 'Fifty Shades' Gets Mother's Day Boost

Mumford & Sons remains a rock band to beat on the Billboard 200, gathering its second no. 1 record with Wilder Mind. Although the band's original alternative fan base has raised an eyebrow at the use of electric guitars on the new set, sales still came out to 249,000-trailing only Drake and Kendrick Lamar for biggest debut of 2015 thus far. Although nothing to frown at, it's still a relatively low sales figure for Mumford, which sold 600,000 copies of Babel when that album dropped during 2012.
  • Zac Brown Band Tops Billboard 200 Third Time with 'Jekyll + Hyde'; Josh Groban, Tyler Farr Debut as Well

The Zac Brown Band found itself on top of the Billboard 200 for the third time with its new album 'Jekyll + Hyde.' Although it wasn't the group's biggest sales week (that goes to its last record, 'Uncaged') but it still managed to move 228,000 equivalent albums. The band has also been busy away from album sales, topping both the Country Airplay Chart and the Mainstream Rock Songs charts with different songs from the album. The only other act in Nielsen history to hit that mark was Bon Jovi.
