  • 8 Artists Who Are Taking Too Long To Release New Albums

This has been a pretty exciting couple of days for fans of both Modest Mouse and D'Angelo, with both artists announcing their first new albums in quite some time (Modest Mouse's last album came out in 2007, while D'Angelo's was 2000). • 9 Rock Albums Whose Producers Co-Wrote The Music

In genres such as pop and hip-hop, it's pretty much standard for a producer to have an active role in the album's songwriting, especially if they're working with a solo artist, but this is pretty uncommon when working with rock bands, who tend to write their own material. These nine albums, however, feature extensive songwriting contributions from their producers, even though they were made by rock bands.
  • 11 Great Albums With 11 Songs

If you're obsessed with albums like I am, the number of songs in a tracklist has an inexplicable significance. While having 10, 12, or 15 tracks seems very neat and tidy, and having nine or less seems vaguely progressive, 11 tracks bursts with confidence, as if the artist had too many good songs for 10, but didn't want to pad it with 12. In honor of Nov. 11 (11/11!), here are the 11 best albums with 11 tracks.
  • R.E.M., Neutral Milk Hotel, Drive-By Truckers Rally for Music Landmark

Some of music's finest acts, including R.E.M., Neutral Milk Hotel, Drive-By Truckers and Widespread Panic, are rallying to save the legendary church steeple in Athens, Georgia, that stands as tribute to the community's bustling music scene. As The A.V. Club points out, the steeple used to be part of an entire church where Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry performed their first gig in 1980 as R.E.M. The church was brought down in 1990, "Rolling Stone" notes, and the steeple has been threatened to be demolished in recent years. Nuçi's Space, a health and music resource center that works for the prevention of suicide, has partnered with musicians from the area to help save the landmark.
  • 8 Albums That End With Instrumentals

A well-constructed album should flow a lot like a film or a novel, with an engaging opening, rising action, and a satisfying conclusion. Some albums even come with a dénoument or epilogue, an instrumental closer that follows the climax. Here are eight albums that close with instrumental tracks.
  • 10 Great Artists Known For Just One Album

Most artists have one album that's generally regarded as their best, but sometimes these albums are so incredible and obviously superior that the rest of the artist's discography becomes overshadowed. Here are ten great artists who are known for just one album.
  • 8 Great LGBT-Themed Alternative Songs

To commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall riots on June 28th, 1969, every June has been designated LGBT Pride Month in the United States. In honor of the 45th anniversary of the riots, here's a list of eight incredible alternative songs with LGBT themes.
  • 6 Great Songs With Solos On Unusual Instruments

In rock and pop songs, most solos are played on guitar or keyboard, though occasionally the bassist and drummer gets chances to shine. However, these six artists chose pretty unconventional instruments (for rock and pop music, anyway) to play them on. Here are six great songs with solos on unusual instruments.
  • 6 Incredible Artists Who Started Off As Drummers

Though plenty of musicians choose one instrument when starting out and stick to it (I know I have), these six artists all started off on drums before becoming renowned for something else. Here are six incredible musicians who started off as drummers.
  • 6 Alternative Musicians Who Vanished from the Music Business

For the most part, musicians don’t really retire. A great deal simply keep playing until they’re physically unable to go on (see: the Rolling Stones). However, there are some artists who more or less vanished from music altogether, and some never returned. Here are six alternative musicians who vanished from the music business.
  • 6 Albums Recorded Without the Entire Band

When you see an album by a solo artist like Michael Jackson or Tom Waits, nobody actually expects them to be the only musician performing on the album (unless they’re Prince). The same thing goes for some albums by bands. Just because the name of the band is on the front of the album, it doesn’t mean the entire band actually performed on the album. Here are six albums recorded without the entire band.
  • 6 Songs with Studio Banter

There are probably thousands of hours of recording studio banter between musicians that have been thrown away by engineers, but sometimes, artists choose to leave these little bits of conversation in the album's finished version. Here are six songs that have studio banter in them.
