• Spotify and Halloween Music: Michael Jackson, Bobby "Boris" Pickett and 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' Top Holiday Streams

    SPSpotify's Insights blog, like any site that depends on music for its readership, went with a Halloween-themed feature as October came to a close. The site tracked more than 600,000 "Halloween" playlists that were created in the lead up to this year's holiday and came up with a Top 10 list of songs featured most. It was fairly predictable, but you can check out the list below, along with the occasional note from Music Times.

  • 'Ghostbusters' Theme Gets Marshmallow-Scented Vinyl Reissue For 30th Anniversary

    In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the 1984 cult comedy, Ray Parker, Jr.'s classic Ghostbusters theme was reissued for Record Store Day in April on glow-in-the-dark vinyl. On October 21, the single will once again be re-released, but this time on 12-inch white vinyl housed in a marshmallow-scented puffy gatefold jacket in honor of the film's villain, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Rolling Stone reports.

    On this date 30 years ago, the lead track from the Ghostbusters soundtrack-the aptly titled "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr.-went to no. 1 on the charts and would stay there for an additional two weeks. Unfortunately, this is a case where the one single blinds listeners from the fact that the performer has a whole discography to consider. There are a few more tracks worth consideration however.
