• Fat Possum Records Opens Own Vinyl Pressing Facility for Artists Like Modest Mouse, The Black Keys and The Districts

    Fat Possum Records made a bold move when it decided to build its own vinyl pressing plant. The music industry is in shambles, but founder Matthew Johnson needed something to correct the backorder problem that multiple labels experience. So he partnered AudioGraphics Masterworks and decided to cut out the manufacturing middle man during a time when vinyl is in-demand. The label represents Modest Mouse, The Districts and The Black Keys.

    Pennsylvania rockers The Districts have announced the release of their debut album on Fat Possum Records. Titled A Flourish And A Spoil, the effort is due out February 10 and features production from John Congleton (St. Vincent, The Walkmen, Angel Olsen). The record will serve as the follow-up to the band's self-titled debut EP, which they released in January. In support of the upcoming album, the band has shared the lead single "4th and Roebling."

    Sunday's attendance of 19,000 beat Saturday's record-breaking tally, bringing the final count to 36,000 for LouFest's 2014 edition. The sun was out in full force in Forest Park's Central Field this time, though there were some oases of shade for concertgoers to escape to. Music Times checked out sets from The Districts, Portugal.     The Districts hail from small town in Pennsylvania called Lititz. Like many young bands, they got their start playing coffee shops and eventually began getting gigs at venues around the local circuit. After moving to Philadelphia after high school, they opted to forgo college educations for careers in music and signed to Fat Possum records in November 2013. They released their debut EP in January, which included three songs off their self-produced 2012 LP Telephones as well as two new songs. The band is currently working on releasing their debut full-length on Fat Possum.
