Love & Hip Hop returned for a new season on VH1 last night, Dec. 15, bringing with it a reunited Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris. Fans of the show are already familiar with the couple's checkered history. They have been a couple for the better part of eight years and parent to their son as well as Harris's older boy from another relationship.
This new season picks up right as Harris has made bail after spending 13 months locked up for his alleged role in a drug ring. The first episode showed fans those first few days of togetherness for Smith and Harris, but the truth is it was all filmed months ago. Smith is currently pregnant with a little girl and planning her wedding to Harris while he is still awaiting trial.
The Hip Hop Socialite caught up with Smith by phone recently and asked her a lot of the tough questions, like how she manages to deal with some of the negative press and scandalous rumors that have haunted her in recent years.
"People often assume because they see you on a TV show, or they might see you post a few pictures, that they know your whole entire life. They don't know what your story is, they don't know what happens in your life, and they just assume that they know everything. And I let so many things go, but some things, if I'm in the mood and I have time, I feel like addressing. I don't address everything, but like I said, they nitpick. If I have a post that I put up that has 300 and 50 comments on it, you best believe there's going to be five talking about my weight, my hair, my dad, my mom, you know, who's this, what's that — it's just expected. It's a shame, it's sad that we are subjected to it, but I guess that's just what comes along with the game," said Smith.
She also dished on how she handles watching as numerous random chicks try to hit up Harris on his social media. Smith said it is actually easy to ignore because for every woman insinuating that she knows Harris, there is a guy who Smith has never met asking why she is not returning his calls. It sounds like the playing field between Smith and Harris is pretty level, and that actually helps to keep their relationship in check.
