Earlier this month, 50 dropped the new single "Smoke" featuring Trey Songz. Now, he tells Digital Spy that the track, produced by Dr Dre, was originally intended for Dre's long-awaited Detox album, which he doesn't think will ever be released.

"Initially I recorded ["Smoke"] for Dre. It was going to be something Dre and I did with Trey Songz for his Detox project. I came back and listened to it again and was like, 'Yo, let me re-work it, because I want to see what it feels like if I'm trying to write that tune for myself.'"

He believes the reason Detox will never see a relase is because of Dre's involvement in his company Beats.

"When it came a priority to secure Beats as a company, they were saying that it may do more damage to have a record come out, and be cool or a good record, than it would help when they have so much positive stuff happening.

"Beats is a billion-dollar business, man. Do you take the icon that's connected to it and turn it into someone that's not so exciting because he released a record and it didn't take off like a rocket?"
