Boyd Tinsley, Dave Matthews Band Violinist, To Take A Break From Band And Touring

Boyd Tinsley will not be performing with the Dave Matthews Band for a while. He revealed that he is taking a break for personal reasons.

The violinist announced that he is stepping away from the band ahead of their performance at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis for the Super Bowl.

Me Time

"I need to take a break from the band [and] touring [to] focus on my family [and] health [for] a while," he said through his personal Twitter page. "I will miss you guys [and] my brothers in the band but I'm somewhat worn out [and] need [to] spend more time with my family [and to] bring more balance to my life. Thanks [for your] Love."

Tinsey has been wrestling with the thought of leaving Dave Matthews Band temporarily for a while now. The group is currently on a tour across North America for the past few months and is still scheduled to appear in more cities.

The band is also set to release a new album this year, their first since Away From the World, which came out way back in 2012.

The rest of Dave Matthews Band has not commented about Tinsley's decision. The violinist has been in the group since the early '90s and has appeared on every album since Under the Table and Dreaming in 1994. His absence will surely be felt not only by his bandmates but also by their loyal fans.

While disappointed, Tinsley's fans have responded with support and understanding.

In December, Tinsley also tweeted that he is looking forward to the tour.

"It'll be great to play for you guys again," he told his followers.

New Music

Dave Matthews Band announced that they are coming out with a new album last month. The group promised that the still-untitled new album will come out this summer. The group has already previewed some songs during previous live performances that will be included in their ninth studio album.

"I think we have some great music and some stuff that Carter [Beauford] and I worked on that's added to the pile," Dave Matthews said in an interview last year. "There's a lot to choose from. I just hope I choose wisely."

In addition, the band is also set to tour the country to promote the new album. Starting on May 18 in Texas, the Dave Matthews Band (minus Tinsley) will be performing in major cities across the United States. Tickets are already available for purchase (and are selling fast).
