Coolio was declared dead at the age of 59.

According to his manager Juarez, who talked to TMZ, the famed rapper, whose actual name is Aris Leon Ivey Jr., was at a friend's house and went to the restroom.

When Coolio did not come out of the restroom, his companion hailed him before entering and finding him sprawled on the floor.

They immediately summoned EMTs, who came and proclaimed the "Gangsta's Paradise" rapper dead.

Coolio died of heart arrest, albeit an official cause of death has yet to be determined. In another report, TMZ said that paramedics tried to revive the rapper for 45 minutes before pronouncing him dead.

According to law enforcement officials, no narcotics or paraphernalia were discovered at the site. However, he is known to have had a serious drug addiction.

The award-winning rapper has had a turbulent life, frequently succumbing to drug addiction and a few run-ins with the police.

Coolio grew up in Monessen, Pennsylvania, before moving to Compton, California. He began as a studious child before looking for ways to fit in better at school.

With poverty and violence rampant in his neighborhood, he said it was impossible to resist being a victim of his surroundings.

"You get beat by them if you don't join them," the "C U When U Get There" rapper told Double J.

Coolio joined the Baby Crisps, a branch of America's most vicious street gangs, when he was 11 years old.

To establish himself more effectively, he adopted aggressive conduct and even began to carry firearms to school, jeopardizing his once-promising academic career.

When he transferred to Compton Community College, he began to participate in local rap content and quickly gained notoriety.

He then became a regular on LA rap radio station KDAY, where he debuted his first single, "Watcha Gonna Do."

Coolio's first taste of popularity was cut short as he developed a major drug addiction. He checked himself into a crack cocaine recovery facility.

He later became a volunteer fireman before dedicating himself entirely to music.

Coolio went on to win prizes, including a Grammy, but his popularity was short-lived once again, as he slipped into bad habits after his third album barely made the Top 40 lists.

The rapper was arrested in 1997 for suspected stealing at a German clothes store, and the German government sentenced him to six months probation and a $17,000 fine.

The "Fantastic Voyage" was stopped again that summer for driving on the wrong side of the road and was charged with marijuana possession and carrying a hidden firearm.
