Victoria Monét has made a name for herself in the music industry as the songwriter of some of the biggest hits in pop music, like Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" and "Thank U Next," but she is done with being in the background-she is now ready to bask in the glory of being a solo artist.
"It was a very difficult, uphill battle trying to get people to understand there's a duality to me, that my relevance wasn't only based on my proximity to somebody else," the "Jaguar II" hitmaker opened up in her Billboard interview.
She has worked with many high-profile stars over the years as their songwriter, but while it helped her hone her craft, it also impeded her solo music career.
"Interview after interview, questions were snuck in about the artists I worked with. I just wanted to be a stand-alone artist with my own reputation."
At the 2024 Grammy Awards, Monét won three awards: Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
Victoria Monét Finally 'Sprouting Above Ground'
Monét was known to write songs for Grande, Nas, BLACKPINK Fifth Harmony, T.I., Coco Jones, Chloe x Halle, Chris Brown, Travis Scott, Brandy, Lupe Fiasco, and more.
She was honored by Billboard Woman in Music as their 2024 Music Rising Star, however, her "overnight" success was 10 years in the making.
"My roots have been growing underneath the ground, unseen, for so long," the "On My Mama" hitmaker said in her acceptance speech. "And I feel like today I'm finally sprouting above ground.
"It's so surreal - everyone keeps calling me 'Grammy award-winning Victoria' now," she continued. "It's like my title has changed. It's going to take some time to sink in, after all these years."
She reintroduced herself with the first installment of her "Jaguar" trilogy in 2020.

Victoria Monét is Technically a 'New Artist'
According to CNBC, Monét is considered a new artist by the music industry since she recently embarked on her solo music career with the release of her debut studio album, "Jaguar II."
It took her years to get signed to a label so she decided to strike out on her own as an independent artist, banking on her own talents and skill.
"There was a binder that I made to take this really important meeting at a label, and I thought I was going to be signed. I was an independent artist with no team and I just thought, maybe my music would stand for itself," she explained.
