DJ Mister Cee, one of the most legendary DJs in the New York City hip-hop scene and a former producer of Notorious B.I.G., has died at age 57.

According to Uproxx, reports about the late musician's death started circulating when some of his colleagues from the hip-hop world took to social media pay tribute to him.

MC Lyte shared a photo of herself and the DJ on her Instagram account. In the caption, she wrote: I'm heartbroken. Wasn't expecting this at all. God Bless his soul. Mister Cee Rest in power & peace!!"

Radio personality DJ Peter Rosenberg took X to share his sentiments upon learning about DJ Mister Cee's death, writing, "We have lost the iconic Mister Cee. I listened to him yesterday and am in complete shock. He was a dear friend to all of us, a wonderful man, and one of the most important and impactful DJs of all time. I love you, Cee."

As of this writing, the late musician's cause of death has yet to be announced.

Who Was DJ Mister Cee?

According to BET, the DJ, whose real name was Calvin LeBrun, was born in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. At a young age, he became fascinated with hip-hop culture, which led him to pursue a music career.

When he was in high school, he was schoolmates with rap superstar Big Daddy Kane, and eventually, they shared a professional relationship as Mister Cee became his DJ for his 1988 album Long Live the Kane.

The late DJ reportedly discovered The Notorious B.I.G. Later, he became his DJ and associate producer on his first album, Ready to Die.

DJ Mister Cee's Life in the 2010s

Aside from being a producer, the Miser Cee was a DJ on Hot97, the popular New York radio station that caters to hip-hop fans, and worked at the station for years.

According to Pitchfork, DJ Mister Cee left the radio station in 2013 after he was arrested several times for soliciting services from transgender prostitutes. He later spoke openly about his sexuality in an interview with Ebro Darden.

Although he returned to the radio station, he resigned shortly after, as he didn't agree with Hot97's musical direction.
